Whispers and Lies

This song is a soft pop rock song with a dark undertone. It’s about lies and half-truths overtaking a relationship. The line “Drown me in the water, or I’ll float” is a reference to one of the inhumane ways people used a long time ago to determine whether innocent women were witches. During these horrid trials if the accused floated up (which almost always happened because of buoyancy) they were a witch and if they drowned they were deemed innocent. I wanted to get a point across about how people think of others they don’t understand. Finally after years of heartache and struggle you get above water, no one wants you to float up top.

Every time you spoke, like a knife on my throat
Drown me in the water, or I’ll float
Whispers and lies, the truth the blind denies
What we see through others eyes

I prayed for years against my fears, But I could never seem to overcome them
My hand close to the wick, on the spindle I might prick, Don’t look for the cure from the sick
As the credits roll, and the last bells toll, what is left of my soul?
A personal hell, lost in my shell, All I can say is fair the well.

Every time you spoke, like a knife on my throat
Drown me in the water, or I’ll float
Whispers and lies, the truth the blind denies
What we see through others eyes

No one understands, the key isn’t in their hands, shadows under my eyes, to my surprise
I saw your face, It cast a shadow of doubt, your all I can think about
The sun has set, and the moon has risen, more or less, a half true lesson
And why do you tell little lies, through your crooked smile

Every time you spoke, like a knife on my throat
Drown me in the water, or I’ll float
Whispers and lies, the truth the blind denies
What we see through others eyes

Every time you spoke, like a knife on my throat
Drown me in the water, or I’ll float
Whispers and lies, the truth the blind denies
What we see through others eyes
