This song was inspired by a saying I heard when I was growing up: “Take me as I am by God or don’t take me at all.” It’s something that stook with me after all these years. People will not be perfect and they will not live up to your expectations. There are things perfectly fine about a person one needs to accept. This song is a story about a young musician kicked out of his home by his family at 16 and the consequences that spur from that. Sometimes running away and being kicked out mean the same thing.
Lyrics:
As a young man played at a bar, putting all his hopes in a jar Didn’t think anything would go this far, putting all his faith in his guitar
Ran away from home at the age of 16, Tried to make a living but he never made it clean. Now he’s down at a bar playing his 6 string
He’s singing Take me as I am by God, or don’t take me at all. I’ve made some mistakes, but so have we all. I remember my brother cursing my name, but am I the one to blame?
Before he had all his dreams on a case on his back, We was in a home that never gave him any slack It drove him mad and decided to fight back Teeth chattered all around in this one horse town
Take me as I am by God, or don’t take me at all. I’ve made some mistakes, but so have we all. I remember my brother cursing my name, but am I the one to blame?
Kicked out with no one around his clothes on the lawn And only a six string strong, He decided to try and go along Years later he’s still singing at a whole in the wall
Take me as I am by God, or don’t take me at all. I’ve made some mistakes, but so have we all. I remember my brother cursing my name, but am I the one to blame?
Take me as I am by God, or don’t take me at all. I’ve made some mistakes, but so have we all. I remember my brother cursing my name, but am I the one to blame?
